Our History

Anchored Bible Church celebrated our 75th year as a church in March 2021. We have a rich history of providing solid Bible teaching and a warm community in the greater Modesto area for decades. We continue to be grateful for the legacy of how God has worked here in the past and excited about the opportunities in the future.

God loves to plant seeds and watch them grow! And sometimes He plants two seeds at two different times to serve His ultimate purpose.

In the Summer of in 1945, God impressed upon the hearts of Velma Robertson and Ella Sandell, two cannery workers, the need for a Southern Baptist Church in the Modesto area, and especially as Modesto was growing just after the close of WWII.  On Thursday, March 14th 1946 nineteen people gathered to pray and organize a new church.  Leonard Sigle would serve as their first pastor.

In 2014 God impressed on the hear of Scott Bird and his family to move back to his hometown and begin a new church, using the experience and vision he had gained while working at a church plant in Kansas.  On a Sunday in May 2015 the new church met for the first time in a rented school building in Modesto, calling itself Harvest Bible Fellowship.  Over the years they rented various buildings, including an underused building on the campus of Baptist Temple.

In May 2021 the two churches became one church under the name Anchored Bible Church.
