Our Philosophy of ministry

How do we do ministry? This question is answered by our philosophy of ministry. Doctrine and theology answer the question “what do we believe?” Our philosophy is how we put belief into action.

Mission Statement (Matt 28:16-20)

We exist to glorify God through the fulfillment of the Great Commission

What is a church? There are a lot of confusing answers. Is it a thinly veiled political action committee? Is it just another social justice organization? Is a local church an extension of your community's humanitarian assistance programs? Or perhaps you think of a church as a therapeutic community or religious business? This is the kind of confusion we would expect of any movement that has lost it’s way, that suffers from mission drift. At ABCModesto we cut through the confusion with clarity by declaring that the church has only one purpose and justification for its existence: The church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ, according to the Word of Jesus Christ, so that we can live lives in the power of Jesus Christ, as witnesses to the Gospel of Jesus Christ before an unbelieving world. 4 Anchors

Unapologetic Preaching, unashamed adoration, unceasing prayer, unafraid witness

Everything starts with a clear and compelling understanding of the supremacy and authority of Scripture. God spoke in a Word so that we might know who He is, who we are, what we are to do, and the blessings and curses for how we respond. We believe that if you are a student of God’s Word you will grow in your appreciation and affection for God, which will inevitably manifest itself in adoration, or worship. We also believe that as you come to know God and trust Him, you will want to talk with Him, which is why He gave us the gift of prayer. It is also inevitable that as you grow in your understanding of the goodness of God, you will want to share that with others who do not yet know him. This is what a disciple does, because this is what following Jesus means.

WHAT IS A DISCIPLE

A disciple is anyone who worships jesus christ, walks with jesus christ, and works for jesus christ.

Everyone who authentically follows Christ goes through a continual process of sanctification. Which simply means we’re becoming more and more like Jesus. Around ABCModesto you’ll hear that described as worshiping, walking, and working for Christ. When we’re intentional about honoring God in these ways, we can’t help but become “mature in Christ” (Colossians 1:28) growing deeper in our relationship with Him and our relationships with others.

Disciple-making is worked out together in our ministry to one another. It’s not about one or a small number of pastors bearing the full responsibility to care for our church (Ephesians 4:11-12). Rather it’s about all who follow Christ using our God-given spiritual gifts to minister to each other, in the context of our Christ-centered church.

How do we do this at ABCModesto? It happens most effectively through our Small Group Ministry. We want everyone who calls ABCModesto their home to take part in a small group. These are regular times of meeting together where the Scriptures are opened, lives are shared, and prayer is happening.

How to Become a Disciple of Jesus

For by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8

To become a follower of Jesus Christ all anyone needs to do is answer the His call to “follow me”. The reason you haven’t yet is because apart from Christ we can do no good thing, this is because we were born dead in you sins and tresspasses. It is our human nature apart from God that keeps us from loving God as we ought to. Rather that reverence, rebellion against God. The only way for this to change is for you to confess that you are what God says you are, a rebel sinner who is dead in your trespasses. Confessing simply means to agree with God, that you are what He says you are. This is important because if you recognize your inability to earn God’s favor, then grace becomes meaningful. Grace is God giving you what you don’t deserve. Rebels receive sonship, through Jesus. Born spiritually dead, you can be born again unto a living hope. Take encouragement from these words “all who call upon the name of the Lord will not be dissapointed.” The Lord is God, and our God has revealed himself through his Son whose name is Jesus of Nazareth.
